Instructions for using the Geratherm mercury-free oral thermometer
Clean the thermometer with warm soapy water and/or an alcohol swab before use.
1. Hold the thermometer at eye level and parallel to the floor with the numbers facing the person reading the thermometer.
2. Slowly twist the thermometer until you can see the silver liquid, Galinstan, inside the inner tube (the red arrow above is pointing to the end of the Galinstan where you would take the temperature reading). You may see a blue line inside the inner tube, this is not the Galinstan...look only for the silver line.
3. The temperature scale, in the form of hash marks, show the temperature in both Fahrenheit and Celsius. The long lines indicate 1 degree and the short lines indicate 0.2 degree. In the image above, the Galinstan is showing a temperature of 95°F or 35°C. The green arrow is at the hash mark indicating 98.6°F or 37°C, which is considered a normal temperature.
4. The blue arrow is at an etch mark in the glass. This etch mark is normal and part of the manufacturing process...the thermometer is not cracked or defected
.
5.The orange circle is showing where the Galinstan appears to be separated. This is normal in glass thermometers and not a defect
Clean the thermometer with warm soapy water and/or alcohol swab, shake the thermometer until the silver contents are again at or below 96 degrees and return the thermometer to its plastic case.
